It’s taken a while but VMware have today released patches to address this issue for older versions of ESXI 5.0 & 5.1
Disappointingly, still no fix for ESXI 4.0 and more importantly ESXi 5.5 (Rumoured to be coming Jan 2015)
ESXi 5.0 Patch 10;
ESXi 5.1 Update 3;
Both releases are available for download from https://www.vmware.com/patchmgr/findPatch.portal
Vendors have now caught up also, with most providing patches or viable workarounds
Veeam Backup and Replication 8
..Still not seeing any obvious updates from EMC for Avamar/Networker regarding fixes, surely to follow soon. In the meantime, workarounds are still the go.
