VMware NSX VCA-NV… So what ?

There’s no doubt Software Defined  everything is big right now, and VMware NSX is probably King of the Hill.

It’s a big focus of Vendor Roadshows and Tech Community events, and rightly so.

As a customer, it’s not easy to get experience on such a platform. But as an influencer, architect and admin of my organization, when the CIO or colleagues come to me and ask what SDN and NSX is all about, I need to be able to talk and demonstrate it’s capabilities and benefits authoritively.  It’s for this reason that I decided to study for and take the VCAN610 exam. This is the Assicate level exam and earns those who pass it the VCA6-NV credential.

The exam wasn’t easy, but not overly difficult. With some networking experience, general vSphere experience and adequate preparation being the key to passing.

The best resource is the free “VMware Network Virtualization Fundamentals” course available from the MyLearn portal. Between that, the Exam blueprint and general info from the NSX blog team, I prepared for about 7 days off and on when I had time. The result, a comfortable pass.

I have a feeling, this is the beginning of a longer journey with NSX, as the more I dived in the more I wanted to learn.

  1. Gearing up to sit for the VCA-DCV and VCA-NV. Appreciate the overview, good insight. I agree with you that it does contain a fair bit of rah-rah ad copy for VMware products, but the job I want requires VMware, so I don’t mind to overlook it. It’s just a sheepskin, essentially.
